Companion animal rehabilitation therapy is the use of therapeutic
exercises combined with manual therapies and modalities to improve
patient recovery, mobility and comfort.
Our rehabilitation program offers a range of services including
assessment and treatment under the care of a veterinarian with
additional training in veterinary rehabilitation.
Who can benefit?
Dogs and cats of different breeds, sizes, and ages can all benefit from
rehabilitation. Formal rehabilitation programs can help patients
suffering from injuries, degenerative conditions, and age-related
problems. Some of the common conditions we treat include:
*
Post-surgical recovery including fracture repair, cranial cruciate
ligament repair, spinal surgery.
*
Neurological conditions such as peripheral nerve issues, spinal cord
injuries, and degenerative myelopathy.
*
Orthopedic problems including elbow and hip dysplasia.
*
Muscle and other soft tissue injuries
*
Obesity
*
Working or sporting dog injuries
*
Osteoarthritis and senior mobility
Initial Consult:
Every rehab patient is booked for an initial consult for a detailed
mobility exam and assessment. At this first appointment we will discuss
rehabilitation options and develop an individualized treatment plan
based on both patient and client needs and abilities.
Hydrotherapy:
The underwater treadmill is an aid for improving muscle strength and
balance, joint comfort and mobility, weight loss, and overall patient
comfort and well-being. It can benefit patients who are having mobility
problems as they age, patients who are overweight, and patients
recovering from a variety of injuries and surgeries.
There are multiple benefits of the underwater treadmill. Low-impact
exercise reduces stress on joints, the water gives buoyancy and
increased resistance for muscle building, and the warm water helps
reduce swelling and discomfort.
How to get started:
Starting rehabilitation requires a referral from your regular
veterinarian. If you think rehab is right for your pet, please discuss
with your family veterinarian and if they agree, they can fill out the
referral form on our website.
